Brain signals are a mixture of rhythms: δ (slow) up to γ (fast). Dial each band's amplitude to shape the waveform, then read it back out with the Fourier transform — a power spectrum and a spectrogram that shows which rhythms are present over time. Add noise to see how peaks get buried.
Delta (<4 Hz) tracks deep sleep, alpha (8–13 Hz) idle occipital rhythm, beta/gamma (>13 Hz) active processing. Each shows up as power in its frequency band — the signal is their superposition plus noise.
The FFT gives frequency but loses time. The spectrogram is a short-time FFT over a sliding window — a trade-off (uncertainty principle) that shows when each rhythm is active, essential for non-stationary brain signals.FFT는 주파수를 주지만 시간 정보를 잃습니다. spectrogram은 슬라이딩 윈도우 위에서 계산한 단시간 FFT로 — 불확정성 원리라는 트레이드오프를 감수하면서 각 리듬이 언제 활성인지 보여주며, 비정상(non-stationary) 뇌 신호에 필수적입니다.
Real EEG is buried in noise and artifacts. As you raise noise, band peaks sink toward the floor — the same detection problem PRISM tackles with representation learning on biosignals.
